In November 2024, Spirit of Gravity presented a series of livestream concerts. Videos of our performances are now available to watch here.
Screaming Alice
16 Nov @ 15:00 UTC
Screaming Alice is Andrew Greaves (Broken Star) and Howard Spencer (Sold, Celled, Pour, Birds of Death Valley). The Brighton-Hove duo – both members of the Spirit of Gravity collective – create improvised long-form pieces, using mostly analogue hardware, with not a laptop, DAW or click-track in sight.
Howard Spencer: EDP Wasp analogue synthesiser, Korg Microkorg synthesiser.
Andrew Greaves: Korg Monologue analogue synthesiser, Roland SH4d synthesiser.
Dan Powell
17 Nov @ 15:00 UTC
I’m a sound artist who uses field recordings, handmade and proprietary electronics and tuned percussion. The main focus of my work is exploring places which have a particular personal resonance for me. I’ve released a couple of albums of sound art on Crónica. I recently collaborated with Andrew Greaves on Inside Journeys while we were artists in residence at Rose Hill Arts, Brighton. I have been active in electro-acoustic improvisation in London and Brighton, especially with Gus Garside in The Static Memories, and Chris Parfitt in Nil. Currently I perform as part of Muster with James O’Sullivan.
Rashamon
21 Nov @ 20:00 UTC
Rashamon is the stratified disco brainchild of Lee Hume. Based in the quietly anarchic town of Lewes and taking a cue from the film (deliberately misspelled), Lee continues to reinvent and reinvigorate his laptop / iphone based electro-synth format. For his latest album, “You Can Solve Everything”, Rashamon has threaded together a throbbing blend of furious synth pop along with a new slant of lyrics plugged through a vocal synthesis engine to deliver a captivating sonic experience that pays homage to the likes of early New Order, Depeche Mode, and OMD, while forging a unique and enthralling path all of its own.
Meljoann
29 Nov @ 20:00 UTC
Creepy avant-pop songs, disorientating AV, wellness cult recruitment.
Meljoann is an experimental pop producer and video artist from Ireland – looking at identity, relationships and gender under capitalism with a comic and surreal gaze.
Remember Glaciers
24 Nov @ 15:00 UTC
Memories of glaciers recovered from the past like bubbles of air trapped in ice cores fade into glacially slow ambient soundscapes. Live, generative, improvised ambient music made with Ableton Live, Moog and VCV Rack modular synthesizers, Emergence granular processing and Valhalla reverb. We may be the last generations to remember glaciers. If you have memories of glaciers you would like to share, please get in touch.
ascsoms
30 Nov @ 20:00 UTC
ascsoms is the solo project of Adam Wimbush. He has one foot firmly planted in Musique Concrete traditions and the other in electronic improvisation.
Tape and sound experiments are used to explore sonic spaces. This ever evolving sound world is made using semi-generative systems of analogue equipment, tape-loops, field recordings, found sounds, miscellaneous electronics and a rotating cast of effects pedals. The results are full of emotion and texture, drones and repetition. They are distilled and released, then like some aural alchemist these experiments are mixed and manipulated again to create newer pieces, an ever evolving sound world.
ascsoms is also a keen collaborator, being one half of sound effects duo Electronic Sound Pictures and half of Bagombo Snuffbox.
midierror
23 Nov @ 20:00 UTC
Set the controls for the heart of the groove. Armed with a selection of grooveboxes from the late 90s onwards, midierror invites you to tune in, turn off, and drop out to ‘GrooveStationFM’. Embark on a sonic voyage with no destination in mind and only one rule: to go in search of the groove.
McCloud
27 Nov @ 20:00 UTC
McCloud (aka Geoff Cheesemaster) is a longstanding member and Life President of the Spirit of Gravity collective. He has been releasing electronic music under this name since 1991 and also makes music as part of Noteherder & McCloud, Cour’en, The Four Heads, Idiot Drone Farm, and is an occasional member of Thee Bald Knobbers.
